Why We Offer Extended Holsters for Micro-Compact Handguns

One of the biggest challenges with micro-compact handgun holsters is simply the lack of available space. Modern concealed carry holsters often use features like adjustable belt clips and concealment claws, and those components require enough room to be positioned and mounted correctly.

On extremely short micro-compact pistols, there isn’t always enough holster below the trigger guard to properly accommodate this hardware. By extending the bottom of the holster, we gain the additional space needed to position the belt clip and concealment claw where they can function properly without compromising the design of the holster.

The additional length also helps solve another common issue with small concealed carry guns: top-heavy tipping.

Because micro-compact pistols have very short barrels and slides, there may be very little holster below the belt line. Once the handgun is loaded and carried inside the waistband, the weight above the belt can cause the grip to tip outward over the top of your pants. This can make the gun less stable and can actually increase printing.

An extended micro-compact holster places more material below the belt, creating additional leverage against the body. This helps stabilize the handgun, reduce outward tipping, and keep the grip tucked closer to the body for better concealment.

Prefer a True-to-Length Holster?

If you prefer a holster that ends closer to the actual length of the firearm, our Standard IWB holster is the better option. On these very small micro-compact models, however, there is not enough room to properly accommodate a concealment claw, so the claw will not be available with the true-to-length configuration.

While adding length to a holster for an already-small handgun may seem unnecessary, that extra length serves an important purpose. It gives us room for properly positioned holster hardware while also improving stability and concealment.
